Schuylkill River Run - Philadelphia, PA
Boat House Row - Favorite Run!
One of my all time favorite runs is in the Fairmount Park system in Philadelphia. You can park at Lloyd Hall or along Sedgely Road (as dozens of other runners do) and join the paved running path right in front of Lloyd Hall. The 8.4 mile loop takes you up along boat house row, past Strawberry Mansion bridge and crosses the Schuylkill river on Center Bridge. If you run this loop in the Spring, the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom as an added bonus. If you run it early enough in the morning, you’re also likely to get entertained as the area school crew teams are on the river rowing in full force. The west bank run is a bit quieter, but no less scenic.
If you’re up for adding a mile or two, cross Spring Garden Street as you get to the Art Museum and follow the signs for the Schuylkill Banks path (new in ’04). This paved path takes you along the newly restored river bank all the way past Chestnut Street. Once back at Lloyd Hall, they have water fountains, public restrooms, and even a café with river front patio tables and chairs. Great place for a run!
