Mount Vernon Trail - Alexandria, VA

Bridge - Mount Vernon Trail
The Mount Vernon Trail is an 18-mile, very well-maintained paved running / biking path. It has fitness trail amenities along the way, parks with restrooms, and scenery that will keep your mind wandering and your legs running. Who would have thought that such a great nature trail existed just outside the nation’s capital! There is a nice parking lot with plenty of space where Rt 235 meets The George Washington Memorial Parkway. You can park here and head north along the paved trail.
After a mile, you come up on Riverbank Park which has a restroom and water fountain and the abundant water views start here and continue for miles. The paved path has a yellow line which provides a safe separation from opposing bike traffic. The trail rolls up and down over hills and crosses many wooden foot bridges along the way. The view of the Potomac River is amazing and inspiring. About 2.5 miles down the trail, you get a great view of Fort Hunt across the river.
